Recording

  • Step 1: Open the GarageBand software
  • Step 2: On the home screen, select “New Project” on the left-hand sidebar and then click on the “voice” icon (or the icon that best suits the purpose of your project) Then click on Choose. You will then be redirected to the GarageBand voice screen.
  • Step 3: If two individuals are recording, press the “+” icon to add another track, select “Record using a microphone or line input“, and under “input” select the device you wish to use.
  • Step 4: Select the track you would like and then click record. Press the play button to pause your recording, then press the record button again to resume. Click the “Stop” button when done recording your podcast.

Editing

  • Step 1: Buttons 1 & 2 (the two buttons NOT circled above, alongside stop, start, and record) allow you to fast forward or reverse to specific parts of your recorded audio. Button 3 allows you to return to the beginning of your audio track. Button 4 plays back your recorded audio.
  • Step 2: To split the track, simply drag the cursor to the point where you would like the track to split. Click on “Edit” in the menu bar, and click on “Split.” By splitting the track you can delete segments of your podcast by highlighting the segment you would like to delete and pressing the delete key on your keyboard.
  • Step 3: To export, click on “Share” on the menu bar and “Export Song to Disk” to save your podcast to your computer.
  • Step 4: In the “Export Song to Disk” menu, Title your project, and select MP3. Select the sound quality of your preference.
