Fight Science

Many view science as a trusted form of proof. But when science supports a controversial issue, it is invariably challenged on a public stage - and often loses.

I. In 1796, physician Edward Jenner invented a method of vaccination against small pox by using cow pox. Critics of this method convinced many people that injecting cow pox would, effectively, turn them into cows.

II.In the 1950s, the cigarette industry banded together to cast doubt on scientific studies linking cancer and smoking. They recruited and paid scientists. See this "Frank Statement to Cigarette Smokers" in which the industry directly denied scientific research findings.
