Creating a podcast can take a lot of work, and might even be overwhelming, but don’t worry; we’re here to help! Here are the steps you’ll need to know to start recording:

Write/outline your conversation

Create a text document and try to identify the points that you’re going to make in your podcast ahead of time, so you can make sure you don’t forget anything when it comes time to actually record.

Reserve a room

There are two recording studios available for use in the library on Level 1, complete with professional grade microphones and soundproofing, as well as a computer with most of the programs you might need to record and edit audio. Room 124 has two microphones that can be used, and 122 has four. Both rooms can be reserved on the Library StoryLab Page.

Record

The recording studios in the library already come equipped with programs like Hindenburg and Audacity, which will allow you to record and edit your audio with as little hassle as possible. Instructions for both rooms can be viewed here:

  1. Hindenburg (Room 124)
  2. Hindenburg (Room 122)
  3. Audacity (Room 124)
  4. Audacity (General Use)

Consider accessibility

It is necessary that your podcast be accessible and convenient to your audience, so you will need to create a transcript to go along with your recorded audio. You can order captions through Kaltura, plus YouTube also has a built-in system, which allows you to create subtitles or captions based on your transcript

Share

When you’re ready to share your podcast, you can upload it to any number of different sites you want, depending on what you plan to do with your podcast. If you’re only sharing it on campus though, we recommend sharing it through Kaltura. If you aren’t familiar with the Kaltura service, take a look at another post on our site for help!
