A list of specialized software you can use at home

For students on campus, specialized software remains available through the open computer labs outside of class time, such as LITC B02.

Students either on- or off-campus have access to a variety of software packages through a Windows virtual desktop. Information about how to access the virtual desktop from either a Mac or PC can be found at https://edtech.domains.trincoll.edu/windows-virtual-desktop/. Software available through the virtual desktop includes:

  • SPSS
  • STATA
  • ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro
  • Atlas.ti
  • ChemDraw
  • Eviews
  • Mathematica

Access options for other software are listed below, and note that there is a Student Emergency and Equity Fund for students that could find any additional cost prohibitive:

ChemDraw Prime – Trinity has a site license for ChemDraw Prime which allows unlimited access for faculty, staff and students. To download and install the latest version of ChemDraw Prime on your work or home machine, go to the site subscription gallery and find Trinity College. Register for an account using your trincoll email address, and you will then have access to the Download Center. Select ChemDraw Prime to download and install the software. If you are prompted for an activation code, read the instructions on the Home page in the download center that describe how to find the activation code under List Entitlements. Any questions, email Sheila Reagan (sheila.reagan@trincoll.edu). For MAC users, follow these instructions if you encounter a download error.

TopSpin – Bruker is now giving away the NMR TopSpin processing-only software free to all faculty, staff and students at higher education institutions. Users will need to register for an account, and then login to access the software.

Adobe Creative Suite –  Discounted Creative Cloud licenses are available for student subscription purchases. Adobe Creative Suite is also available on certain computers on campus.

Hindenburg audio recording and editing software – Hindenburg is offering a student discount on their software. Students should also consider using Audacity, which is a free alternative that can be used for audio recordings or podcasts.
