3D Print Your Voice
While 3D printing is incredibly useful in manufacturing and rapid prototyping it is also a great way to create new works of art. In this tutorial we will walk you through the process of recording your voice to make a 3D model of the sound waves we can print. This approach uses the free Audacity audio editor (https://www.audacityteam.org/) and Photoshop. Audacity is installed on all public Windows and Mac computers on campus. Creating a Customized 3D Printed Keychain with SketchUp
SketchUp is a great way to get started learning about 3D design. Follow the tutorial below to learn the basics of SketchUp while creating a customized keychain you can print! The video below was created using the Older FREE version called SketchUp Make 2017 which is no longer available. The only free version currently is the web based SketchUp at https://app.sketchup.com/. If you use the Microsoft method to login you can use your Trinity Credentials. 3D printing is available for FREE in the Center for Digital Learning on Level 1 of the library. Introducing Poll Everywhere!
Libraries and Digital Learning have a site license for the web-based audience participation software, Poll Everywhere. Poll Everywhere can be used in the classroom or during meetings to collect live, interactive responses from the audience from any type of mobile device or computer. Poll Everywhere works in PowerPoint, Keynote, and Google Slides, plus when used as an assessment quiz, results can be integrated with Moodle Gradebook. Podcasting with Audacity
When we use the term podcasting we are often just referring to an audio project rather than a proper podcast which would imply a series of syndicated audio recordings. In either case the process of planning and creating the audio files is the same. We just won’t go into the process of syndication in this post. Getting Started Planning ahead is critical. Focus on the content and the story you are going to tell. Give yourself enough time to re-record segments if the audio quality isn’t as good as it should be. Using Kaltura to Stream Movies on Recent Versions of macOS and iOS
Kaltura is the tool Trinity College uses to deliver streaming video for classes, and in general it is working pretty well on various browsers and operating systems. However, many people who access Kaltura on an up-to-date iOS or macOS device are greeted with a puzzling error: “It seems your browser is blocking 3rd party session cookies which are required for the Kaltura application. To resolve this issue, please update your settings to allow 3rd party cookies.” This is happening because in recent updates Apple have changed a default preference, turning on a new feature called “Prevent Cross-Site Tracking.” This breaks Kaltura, which needs to be able to set a cookie…
