Adding a Forum/Discussion Board to your course
To create a forum, make sure editing is turned on, and click the “+Add an activity or resource” button located at the bottom right of each week/topic then select forum from the list. You can select a forum type by expanding the “Forum Type” drop down menu in the General section. The default is “Standard Forum for General Use,” and that works for most scenarios. TOW: Audio Feedback in Moodle, with PoodLL
If you’ve noticed a blue puppy dog icon as an option in Assignments, Quizzes and Forums in Moodle, you probably didn’t realize it was an indicator for a tool that will let you give audio files as feedback. What can students or my TA see and do in Moodle?
You can easily switch views to see what students, TAs and other types of participants see in your Moodle course. Once any course is visible to students, you can check visibility permissions under the “Administration” box. You can check what your students and TAs can see with their role when you use the “Check permissions” option, under “Users” and “Permissions”. Then, you can simply select a specific user and choose the “Show this user’s permissions” option to view their roles and permissions.

TOW: New Features in Moodle
As is usually the case, we’ve updated Moodle over the summer, and are now offering Moodle 3.0. In addition to a variety of behind-the-scenes updates, there are a few new features that may be relevant to your fall courses: There are four new question types for quizzes, two involving text, and two involving images. The text types are: select missing word (multiple-choice fill-in-the-blank) and drag-and-drop into text (same, but with a drag-and-drop interface rather than selecting from a list). The image types are: drag-and-drop onto an image, which lets students drag text or small images onto larger images, and drag-and-drop markers, which lets students add text markers to predefined locations. If you use…
