  • Create an Assignment

    First, make sure editing has been turned on in the course, as described in the “Editing a Course” post.  Go to the course section (week or topic) where you want to create an assignment.  From the “+Add an activity or resource” link, choose Assignment under Activities.  Then click the “Add” button at the bottom of the pop-up window.  You will then be working within the Adding a new Assignment window.   In the ‘General’ section, enter the Assignment name and description (these fields are required).  Under the ‘Grade’ section, assign the number of points (or no grade) for the assignment, along with the grading method (direct grading, marking guide or rubric). …

  • TOW: Using Moodle Scheduler to set up student appointments

    If your class uses Moodle regularly, the Scheduler plugin is very useful for setting up appointments with students in your class, either individually or in groups. (Outside of Moodle, a handy way to schedule appointments is with the WASS scheduler.) Start by turning on editing in Moodle, and then click on ‘Add an activity or resource.’ In the box under Activities, choose Scheduler and click ‘Add.’  A new page will appear called ‘Adding a new Scheduler’ where you enter in a name (required).   • Adding a Forum/Discussion Board to your course

    To create a forum, make sure editing is turned on, and click the “+Add an activity or resource” button located at the bottom right of each week/topic then select forum from the list. You can select a forum type by expanding the “Forum Type” drop down menu in the General section. The default is “Standard Forum for General Use,” and that works for most scenarios. The Q and A forum type can also be useful. There are a few key differences between this forum and the standard forum.   • TOW: Audio Feedback in Moodle, with PoodLL

    If you’ve noticed a blue puppy dog icon as an option in Assignments, Quizzes and Forums in Moodle, you probably didn’t realize it was an indicator for a tool that will let you give audio files as feedback. Meed PoodLL, a Moodle plugin that lets you (and students) record audio directly in Moodle, without having to go through a separate upload process. PoodLL can do a lot, but perhaps one of the most helpful features is the ability to provide audio feedback to student assignments.
